STYROFOAM PRINTS

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR STYROFOAM PRINTMAKING

~ 4" X 6" Foam pieces

~ Pencil for drawing on the foam (which makes the indentations) ~ not too sharp, more of a dull tip

~ Paper cut to a size about an inch bigger all around than the plate

~ Watercolor Markers

~ Paper towel to wipe off paint from the plate in between prints (we took them to the sink first to wash with water)

HOW TO DO STYROFOAM PRINTING

  1.  Come up with a design on a piece of paper. The image should have a lot of texture aka line details.

  2. Draw your design on your piece of styrofoam with a dull pencil.

  3. Get a pack of Crayola or other watercolor markers. Color in the shapes on your styrofoam with the markers.

  4. Get white paper and lightly wet it with a slightly damp sponge. (Note: I used copy paper and the paper made a splotchy looking print, I was okay with this. If you want to be serious about the process use thicker drawing or watercolor paper.)

  5. Place the styrofoam on top of the paper and lightly rub the styrofoam to help transfer the marker on the paper.

  6. Remove the styrofoam and see what your final print looks like.

  7. Make at least 3 copies so you have grading options to choose from. You can use different color combinations if you want to.
