ART EXPLORATION SYLLABUS
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This UC approved, entry-level course provides students with experiences in drawing, design, painting, sculpture and printmaking. Assignments are designed to acquaint students with different materials, techniques and concepts. Experiences in this class will help students make decisions on other art classes they may be interested in taking.
WHAT GRADE LEVEL CAN ENROLL IN THIS CLASS?
9th-12th grade
MAJOR UNITS
Drawing, Design, Painting, Sculpture, and Printmaking
GRADING POLICY
Each completed project will be graded and weighted with points in proportion to the difficulty of the assignment. Effort, focus, following assignment requirements, creativity, completeness of work, set-up and clean-up, as well as attendance, will be part of the grade for each project. The emphasis of the grade is on the quality of participation, not on artistic talent.
GRADING SCALE
A-grade (100-90%) is equivalent to EXCELLENCE in all aspects of the art experience.
B-grade (89-80%) is VERY GOOD, NOT EXCELLENT.
C-grade (79-70%) is SATISFACTORY.
D-grade (69-60%) is PASSING THE CLASS ONLY!
F-grade is due to BAD ATTENDANCE, NON-PARTICIPATION ON ASSIGNMENTS AND NOT HANDING IN ASSIGNMENTS.
HOMEWORK POLICY
Students who work slowly, miss class time, are ill or in sports will make up lost time at home. Otherwise, there is no formal homework in this class.

DEADLINE POLICY
If a project is not completed by the deadline students will only be given extra time if they contact me before the official due date.

DONATION FOR SUPPLIES
All supplies are supplied by me, however, I cannot possibly afford all the supplies we use with the money that I am given by the state & school. I rely on donations given to me by my students. I ask for a reasonable, tax-deductible, donation of $20 for the entire year. Donations can be given to me anytime. Checks should be made out to MHS. If you can't afford the $20, I am happy to take anything you can give me. Art supplies are not cheap! Thank you!
