Painting Syllabus

Yearlong Course 10-12th Grades
Prerequisite: Art Exploration, Drawing or Teacher recommendation
Course Description: Painting is designed for the student who wishes to develop artistic expression through Painting. Painting techniques, composition and problem-solving are the benchmarks for all studio work throughout the year. Blending, glazing, drawing with proportion and in perspective are activities to build painting skills for landscapes, waterscapes, abstract studies, portraiture, art history, social issues, cultural and personal expression. This course will use acrylic paint and paintbrushes on watercolor paper and canvases.

Course Requirements and Grading Rubric for A+

Studio participation every day and efficient time management.

Build a portfolio of class exercises, assignments, and personal expression.

An A grade requires fulfillment of assignment guidelines, effort, creativity, craftsmanship, and clean-up cooperation.

Points earned for all assignments are accumulative throughout the semester.

Grading scale: A=90-100, B= 80-89, C= 70-79, D= 60-69, F=0-59

Homework: complete missing assignments due to any kind of absence.
Donation for Art Supplies: With a limited art budget, $20 is requested for acrylic paint, a large variety of paintbrushes, watercolor paper, and canvas. Please have a parent/guardian sign the donation letter along with a donation of $20 to get started in painting activities.
Class Rules: Treat one another with respect; treat art supplies with respect. Clean-up messes and handle paint with care because it dries permanently. Discuss any issues with
